I stayed in a Bed & Breakfast called The Porch House, a description applicable to the majority of the houses in Granville. The first house on the left is where the owners live, the other one is for the guests. Both are from the early 1900s and were built in Victorian style.

My main destination in Downtown Pittsburgh: the headquarters of PPG Industries at 1 PPG Place. On January 2nd, PPG Industries completed the acquisition of the SigmaKalon Group, a producer of paint and specialty coatings based in the Netherlands, where my father has been working for over 25 years. When Steve suggested a visit to the Carnegie Science Center, he provided a wonderful opportunity to visit my father's new boss.

We passed by PNC Park while walking from the Carnegie Science Center to PPC Place and were surprised to see how close we could get to the field. It's the advantage of winter, I suppose. When the Pittsburgh Pirates are playing, you'd have to have a ticket to get to where I took this picture.

There live a couple of people in Ohio whom I've known on the internet for a number of years. My visit to Ohio provided a wonderful opportunity to meet two of them. The first was Theresa; she, a friend of hers and I met at the Franklin Park Conservatory in eastern Columbus. This picture shows a waterfall in the Himalayan Mountains room.

I met my other internet friend, Aly, in Cleveland the day after I was in Columbus. I didn't take any pictures that day, but I did the next, during two hikes in the North Chagrin Reservation (a forest in northeastern Cleveland) and on my way back to Granville. This picture shows a curtain of icicles overhanging a small stream in the North Chagrin Reservation.

The trail was mostly fine to walk on at a normal pace. I took it a bit slower here, with the path curving down quite steeply.

There were a lot of dead trees in the North Chagrin Reserve. Most lay flat on the ground, but these ones are stacked like the sticks in a Mikado game.

I followed mostly minor roads on my way back from Cleveland to Granville. I hadn't realized this would bring me straight through Amish country, so I was rather surprised when I had to slow down for an Amish carriage. As I got out my camera, a second one appeared from the other directions. I encountered another six or so the rest of the day.
